Today I worked on the Morrell House Project again. This is a project where my church has volunteered to restore an old Craftsman style house for the city of Redondo Beach. Due to my schedule and other activities, I haven’t been able to help out in a while. This is the house at the start of the day.
At the beginning of the day we had a class to learn about and be certified as a scaffold worker. It was interesting and informative. I now am a card-carrying scaffold worker!
Here you can see the wood floor they put down in the back porch area. It is sloped away from the house so the rain water will drain away and off the corner.
Today I helped install these Cat-5 network boxes and conduits. They are using conduit for this since the wires won’t be installed until after the walls are completed.
We also did some demolition work on the back addition to the house. We took out the windows and part of the siding off. The windows were late additions and didn’t match the rest of the windows on the house. The siding had to be removed as well because it wasn’t installed level.
Here is John finishing up a studwall we extended in the kitchen area. I think it need to be extended because the stove is bigger than expected, but don’t quote me on that.
Here you can see the entry wall that we built today. And the blocks that I put on the wall in the handicapped bathroom. We needed to put some “bandaids” on that wall to force it to be straight.
I also installed these horizontal boards near the toilet so that the handicapped toilet can have a support rest bolted to the wall here.
Here is Ken fixing the ceiling over the porch. He is the finish contractor for the project.
