We flew again

Steve and I flew my Zagi at lunch again today. Steve had fixed the busted receiver connector last night. We brought our lunches over to the park and had a good time flying.

This time Steve flew first since I flew first yesterday and broke the connector on a bad landing. He flew well, but says my plane is slower than his. It may be that mine is carrying some extra weight with the lighting system I have. I was taking pictures and asked him to bring it in close for a good shot, and as he did, the plane went into an unrecoverable death-spiral. It landed on the roof of a portable building at the school next door. I was able to climb the fence and onto the roof to retrieve the undamaged plane. Don’t you just love EPP!

After Steve was done, Bill arrived to observe. I flew it around for a while. With this single stator CD-ROM motor kit, I think the weight and drag of the zagi is a bit much for it. A double-stator version would probably work better. I flew it on a 7-cell 800 maH NimH pack and it could fly fine, but not enough power for a loop.

Here is the brushless motor mounted. We had to wrap the dowel with lots of tape to make it big enough for my zip tie mounting system to work. That is a 6×3 prop on it.

We all had a great time flying today.
