Flying My Birthday Plane

  • by

Kirk and PlaneToday I flew a new model airplane I received from my friends for my birthday. (My birthday is 12/19). The plane is called the X Plane from SilverLit Flying Club.

First we tried flying in the parking lot here at work, and that proved to be too small. So we went over to the local park and flew there. It has all grass, so we couldn’t do the ground take-off, but were able to fly it. The plane doesn’t have servos for the control surfaces, they seem to be using actuators. This means that the surface movement is not proportional, it is all or none. It flew ok, but it porpoised a lot, which could be from the elevator neutral, not being neutral, or from an improper center of gravity (CG) placement. I will adjust it and try again. The bomb drop feature worked fine, and we tried the parachutist too, but I think he got hung up in the tube. I didn’t bring a screwdriver, so I couldn’t change the mechanism out to the camera but I will do that next time as well. This picture was taken with the included camera.
